UNC Health Care didn’t take patient appointments immediately before and during North Carolina’s game Thursday night

This is a complete non-story that is getting ridiculously blown out of proportion. There was no way people could have easily gotten to appointments on Thursday, the hospital knew this a year ago and scheduled accordingly. It’s ridiculous how quickly people will try to jump on any sniff of a rumor about college sports and their importance at universities.

At NC State Fair, vendors push food boundaries

Some of this stuff is just insane:

> Over in the Commercial Building, David Booth theorized that a good food vendor needs to keep the old while pushing boundaries. This year he and his wife deployed double-decker caramel apples dipped in chocolate, covered in candy and topped by a Hostess Ding Dong cake.

and

> “Something’s drawing me in – I don’t know what,” Harrison said, waiting to order one of this year’s best-publicized treats. Then he slapped down his $7 for an oozing, cheesy sloppy joe on a glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut.

That sounds…umm…I do not even know what to say.

McCrory Calls Federal Election Lawsuit ‘In The Fringes’

Barry Smith, writing at the *Carolina Journal*:

> Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday struck back at the federal government, saying the U.S. Department of Justice was “working in the fringes.” McCrory, a Republican, said the state would defend the lawsuit filed by the Democratic administration of President Barack Obama against the state’s new election laws vigorously.

> “I believe that North Carolina is in the mainstream on this issue and it’s the Justice Department that’s working in the fringes,” McCrory said during a press briefing in Raleigh. McCrory made a statement and took no questions. The state has hired private legal representation to defend the lawsuit.

The Left continues to have hissy-fits because it lost almost all control in North Carolina[^fn1], and this is the latest move to try to paint North Carolina Republicans as far-right loons. Thankfully, I think the people of North Carolina are smart enough to realize just what kind of game Holder and the Justice Department are playing.

Obamacare Expected To Cause 80-Percent Spike to Average Individual Premiums in North Carolina

I am one of the people who got the “substantial increase” notifications.[^fn1] I am not at all surprised, since I have thought this law was a disaster from the start.

[^fn1]: As, I am sure, a number of young, healthy professionals did. Which, of course, makes it all the more ridiculous that they threw their support behind Obama in the election.

It is Too Bad Apple Bloggers Do Not Recognize the Media’s Bias Outside the Apple Context

Rush Limbaugh mentions something that I have been thinking a lot lately:

> The way you [,Apple Bloggers,] see [the majority of the tech media] propping up Samsung and Google and Android and the way these guys are ripping Apple to shreds, would you try to see that in the mainstream media? Would you open your eyes and see what’s going on in the mainstream media? Would you try to open your eyes and see that in the mainstream media, the Republican Party is Apple, and the Democrat Party is Samsung, Google, and Android.”

It is really too bad that more of the tech bloggers do not recognize that same type of misdirection is happening over in the political side of the news media, too.[^fn1] It feels like it is a waste of their analytical skills.

[^fn1]: This recent [quote from Ben Brooks](http://brooksreview.net/2013/08/post-facts-sort-of/) about the continued NSA scandal reminded me of Limbaugh had said: “That’s on me for not fully reading the source documents and taking the Post at its word.”

The Comfort Of Boutiques Like FeedWrangler

Devir Kahan, writing at his *Bitquill* site about the issues [Feed Wrangler](http://feedwrangler.net) had yesterday:

> I didn’t really get worried at all that my feed reading service had just imploded, because I didn’t really think that it had. I didn’t get worried that my account was hacked or anything like that. I just knew that FeedWrangler is operated by a single person, David Smith, and was sure that, somewhere out there, said single person was dropping everything to run and do the best possible job to get FeedWrangler back up in the least amount of time possible. Indeed, the service came back within the hour.

> But I also knew, more importantly, that he was sure to be updating the FeedWrangler Twitter account with updates as to what was going on — with total, complete transparency at every step of the way. After all, especially with a one man shop, he has a real reputation to keep up. I popped open Tweetbot to check in on what the story was, saw that FeedWrangler was having some problems but should be fixed in a short time, and went on with my day. By the time I came back to Reeder later in the day, it was no longer giving me errors and things had returned to normal. The whole situation just felt so human.

I complete agree with Devir. I had absolutely no problem with what happened yesterday, and I hope David learns from the event and makes the service better. Unfortunately, [some people are not as understanding about what happened](https://alpha.app.net/maximevalette/post/8611137#8608791).

N.C. Voter Laws Would Remain More Liberal Than In Many States

> Traditionally blue states such as New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut don’t allow either early voting or no-excuse absentee voting, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Other states allowing neither include Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Stop using these *facts* to counter the narrative! That isn’t fair!
