New trailer for Disney’s upcoming movie *Frozen*, based on the classic fairytale *The Snow Queen.* Unfortunately, this trailer does not give us a view of the female protagonist, who will be voiced by Kristen Bell.

Jeff Parker on Man of Steel
I cannot quote much of Mr. Parker’s review because it contains a lot of spoilers. Though I will quote the conclusion below, I encourage you to read the whole thing:
> Ultimately, Superman as a character runs the risk that everyone projects something different into their idea of him. I don’t need all my childhood buttons pushed, I don’t need the S-curl in his hair to be there, I just need the story to work on its own merits. The audience I saw it with seemed satisfied, though I think a few cheer-out-loud moments could have been created with a little more thinking.
Mark Waid on the Man of Steel
> The essential part of Superman that got lost in MAN OF STEEL, the fundamental break in trust between the movie and the audience, is that we don’t just want Superman to save us; we want him to protect us. He was okay at the former, but really, really lousy at the latter. Once he puts on that suit, everyone he bothers to help along the way is pretty much an afterthought, a fly ball he might as well shag since he’s flying past anyway, so what the hell. Where Christopher Reeve won me over with his portrayal was that his Superman clearly cared about everyone. Yes, this Superman cares in the abstract–he is willing to surrender to Zod to spare us–but the vibe I kept getting was that old Charles Schulz line: “I love mankind…it’s people I can’t stand.”
I enjoyed *Man of Steel*, but there was something about it that was missing. I think Waid nails what that missing component wis.
Alex Navarro writing on *Giant Bomb*:
> Instead of just another half-enthusiastic press event, Sony came to E3 looking for a fight. Early on the tone was set for something pretty great, but by the time we hit the halfway point, it almost looked like Sony was actively mocking Microsoft’s tepid announcements and various system-related controversies. And that was before Sony actually started mocking Microsoft quite directly for all those things and then some.
As we get further away from the Sony press conference, and people start comparing it to Microsoft’s, it becomes more and more clear that Sony “won the day”.[^fn1] Whether in response to Microsoft or not, Sony’s used games policy[^fn2] and $100 lower price seem to put Sony a good bit ahead before the real race has even begun.
[^fn1]: That is, obviously, a lot different than winning this generation of consoles.
[^fn2]: “Just buy a disc.”
I am currently 187 days out from my next trip to Disney World. I am already starting to get nervous about making ADRs in a few days.
> Scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, it will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.
> The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV – an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.
I was slow to the *Clone Wars* bandwagon, but I will not be making that mistake with this new show.
Speaking of no brainers…
I would watch a Lando movie.
Speaking of things that I hope are going on next year when Elyssa and I are down there for our honeymoon.
Chip and Dale Debut as Ewoks
Okay, I think this is pretty cool.
I hope that they do the 24-hour thing again next year when Elyssa and I are there for our honeymoon.
My only fear for this show is that I have my expectations set way, way to high. Insanely good trailers like this are not going to help that problem.
It will be interest to see how this plays out. My guess: people end up buying a whole lot more “park hopping” type tickets to jump between the two parks.
A sensible, more level-headed look at the Disney-related controversy of the day.
Really cool idea, though I wish they had included a frakin’ RSS feed.
Over the weekend, [Merida](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merida_(Disney)) from Pixar’s [Brave](http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=r*bqlTuiXSo&offerid=146261&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=https%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fmovie%252Fbrave%252Fid544101708%253Fuo%253D4%2526partnerId%253D30)[^f4255], was coronated as the 11th Disney Princess. I am wicked jealous I did not get to attend[^fn1].
Of course, even a celebration like this is not without its controversy. Brenda Chapman, who received writing and directing credits for *Brave* but was [fired during its production[(http://articles.latimes.com/2011/may/25/entertainment/la-et-women-animation-sidebar-20110525), [is not pleased with the 2D version of the Pixar character.](http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/blogs/beth-kassab/os-brave-creator-joins-petition-against-disneys-merida-make-over-20130513,0,1342190.post) There is an in-depth rundown of the [whole kerfuffle](http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ThemeParkInsider/~3/Lxl5oYIM0XU/) at *Theme Park Insider.*

[^fn1]: Mostly, because I think Elyssa really would have enjoyed seeing it.
Why Wine tasting is Garbage
This article has been making the rounds recently and it is just hilarious. This is my favorite story from it:
> In 2001, researcher Frédéric Brochet invited 54 wine experts to give their opinions on what were ostensibly two glasses of different wine: one red, and one white. In actuality, the two wines were identical, with one exception: the “red” wine had been dyed with food coloring.
> The experts described the “red” wine in language typically reserved for characterizing reds. They called it “jammy,” for example, and noted the flavors imparted by its “crushed red fruit.” Not one of the 54 experts surveyed noticed that it was, in fact a white wine.
So good.
NBC Passes on The Sixth Gun
Major bummer. I was loved the casting for this show. Apparently, Oni Press still thinks there is an outside chance we’ll see the show somewhere. I am not holding my breath.
I am still bummed they are not having of these events during Thanksgiving week. I might stay an extra day just so I can go.
Woah. That is a pretty impressive first quarter.
