Jeremy Lin and the Rockets Beat the Knicks…Again

I always enjoy stories like this. Guy gets, essentially, kicked out town, and then comes back to beat his old team. It is even better that it is the Knicks getting beat.

Thomas Hawk on Compares Terms of Service

This might come as a surprise[^fn1], but Thomas’ analysis makes it sound like Google might be the most protective of photographer’s rights:

> Google+’s TOS tends to provide photographers greater protection with a provision that your content there can be used for the “limited purpose of operating, promoting and improving our services, and to develop new ones.” Nothing about selling off your photos to third parties there, folks.

I am going to have to dig into these before I make my decision on what my “new Instagram” will be.

[^fn1]: A surprise because of Google’s reputation regarding privacy.

A Sort-of-Positive Look at Ryan Lavarnway’s September

> With the expected bumps in BABIP and power, Lavarnway should be a good major-league hitter, especially compared to what he’s doing now. However, he still has work to do until the team can trust him to produce at that level on a consistent basis. … While Lavarnway’s numbers suggest a rebound is highly possible for next year, he still has to prove he’s capable of doing it on a full-time basis. For this reason, I would keep both catchers on the roster next year. If Lavarnway bounces back as is expected of him next year, Saltalamacchia could be trade bait at the deadline. Until then, though, it’ll be interesting to watch Lavarnway’s progress. His September that was supposed to be a showcase for him has been a failure, but there is still plenty of hope for him moving forward.

Obviously I would have preferred if Lavarnway hit as well as Will Middlebrooks did when he was called up, but at least *Over the Monster* gives me some hope for next season.

Cabrera tried to use a Fake Website to Explain his PED Use

> The idea, apparently, was to lay a trail of digital breadcrumbs suggesting Cabrera had ordered a supplement that ended up causing the positive test, and to rely on a clause in the collectively bargained drug program that allows a player who has tested positive to attempt to prove he ingested a banned substance through no fault of his own.

Somewhere Jim Rome is frothing at the mouth to get on the radio and talk about this.

Offset Comics – Hopefully a new Digital Imprint from Ivan Brandon

[The Beat mentions a link to](http://www.comicsbeat.com/2012/07/30/ivan-brandon-to-launch-offset-comics/) [Offset Comic](http://offsetcomics.com/) at the end of [recent piece by comic writer Ivan Brandon](http://www.theawl.com/2012/07/batman-ish). I am hoping that Offset turns out to be a new digital comics imprint, similar to [MonkeyBrain](http://www.monkeybraincomics.com/). I’ve heard Mr. Brandon speak a few times[^fail], as well as having had the pleasure of talking to him once or twice personally, and I think he has an excellent grasp of the comics market. I can consider him a forward thinker and someone, who if given the right opportunity, would be able to do some big things as far as marketing, packaging and distribution of comics.

[^fail]: I was disappointed at this year’s [HeroesCon](http://heroesonline.com/heroescon) when I found out I missed the first half of a panel where he was an unadvertised participant. I pretty much ran to the panel to catch the second half.
