Someone had to the fall for the Sox’s horrible start to the season. Nieves seems like the right guy for the ceremonial ax.

Mookie Betts starting to come around
As a rookie, you have to assume there’s going to be ups and downs. Hopefully, these “up” periods will outnumber the down ones.
This is kind of exciting and also kind of stinks. I am excited to see what Swihart can do, but I also am afraid that the Sox are bringing him up too early.

> Farrell almost surely will be fined for his comments.
But I assume umpire Dana DeMuth, who *was* horrific all night, won’t face any repercussions for being terrible.
Sure, if Ortiz touched the umpire, he should be suspended for a game. Tumpane, the umpire who was completely unprofessional and caused the situation, should be suspended for significantly longer.
This was the only thing good about the Red Sox game this afternoon.
Sometimes, I forget just how great it’s been to be a Boston sports fan these past few years.
The Lighting Hands of Mookie Betts
Owen Watson, writing at *Fangraphs:*
> That highlights the trickiness inherent to pitching to Betts: he doesn’t have many glaring holes in his swing and doesn’t chase a lot of bad pitches. Try to bust him inside, and he can drive the ball, even when it’s on the black; try to get him to chase outside, and he’ll take his walks.
It is really hard to keep myself from getting wwwwaaayyyy too excited about Mookie.
It was pretty awesome to watch. I hope Mookie can keep it up all season.
Check out Rob Bradford’s *Closing Time* column for all the craziness that occurred in the game.
Red Sox outlast Yankees in 19 innings
What a crazy game. I would prefer if the Red Sox get a more traditional win today.
I’m looking forward to this season, but am also really looking forward to watching all this young talent develop.
Mookie is fast. Relatedly: I’m ready for baseball season.
Not bad for 63 million, right?
That it is. That. It. Is.
How great would it be if the Patriots were congratulating the Red Sox after a World Series win in November?
Keith Law unveils Red Sox top-10 prospects
Just posting this to get my mind kickstarted into thinking about baseball.
I really hope this is true. I also really hope Victornio can stay healthy this season.
Pablo Sandoval poses with a “Panda”
Pretty happy to have the Panda in Boston.
