How the Tigers Can Beat Florida State
Good, but unsurprising suggestions of the “don’t give up big plays” variety.
> On Saturday, No. 3 Clemson will host No. 5 Florida State in what will be a season-defining game in the Atlantic Division. In each of the past four seasons, the winner of The Game has gone on to play in the ACC championship, but for the second straight year, the stakes are even higher. Both teams are legitimate contenders for the national title, and on Sunday, the first BCS standings will be released. Both teams have Heisman hopeful quarterbacks, and the competition between veteran quarterback Tajh Boyd and FSU rookie Jameis Winston is as compelling as any matchup in the country right now.
Thankfully, I have the Red Sox to be nervous about this week, so I will not be consistently worrying about Clemson v. FSU. What a week.

Clemson almost choked this away. Thankfully, they managed to scrape together a win.

Clemson loses No. 2 WR to torn ACL
Clemson receiver Charone Peake, the second-leading receiver on the team, suffered a torn ACL during practice on Tuesday and will miss the rest of the season, the school announced on Wednesday.
This stinks, both for Charone and for the team.
It’s good to see my university excelling both in the classroom and on the field. It makes me proud to wear my orange.
As a Clemson fan, I love this.

ACC enjoys big wins to start season
> The league made a statement in Week 1 with Clemson beating Georgia, vaulting the Tigers to No. 4 in the rankings. Another win against a marquee team would send ACC officials dancing from press box tables. Especially a win from Miami — a program that has underwhelmed despite the expectation it would enhance the league’s reputation when it joined in 2004.

Grantland’s Week 1 College Football Recap
The first weekly recap from Grantland’s new college football writer, Holly Anderson. It is a huge, huge improvement over the site’s college football coverage from last year.
The game of the week is Clemson v. Georgia. By about 11pm on Saturday night, we’ll know if Clemson is really a national title contender or not.
It seems like the legal world is the only place that cannot let go of binders full of paper.
Okay. I am officially nervous.
This is probably a good decision, even if I would prefer that coaches were not required to go to such lengths.

Clemson is the Favorite in the ACC
From Heather Dinich’s write-up of ACC media day:
> For all of the talk about how the Clemson-Florida State game is going to determine this year’s championship game winner, the votes indicated the Tigers should head into it as the overwhelming favorite. Clemson received 95 votes as this year’s preseason favorite to win the ACC, while Florida State received just 15. You better believe the game will be much closer than that, but Clemson received 102 first-place votes in the Atlantic Division while FSU — the defending ACC champ — got 18. Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd also received 105 of 120 votes for the ACC’s preseason player of the year. The Tigers are shouldering the same kind of expectations FSU was last year.
The Tigers have pressure on them. Hopefully, Dabo has them ready to handle it.

That is a really big **If**.
Great, Alabama has an *easy* schedule. Meanwhile, Clemson’s road has some difficulties as a result of being in the ACC:
> The difference between Clemson and the other contenders is that the Tigers, due to the low opinion of the ACC, cannot afford a single loss if they want to get into the BCS title game (barring some sort of 2007-level chaos, at which point all bets are off). Clemson’s schedule doesn’t feature many marquee games, but the three they have are tough: Georgia, Florida State and at South Carolina, all teams that could easily finish in the top ten. In addition to that, they would still have the ACC Championship Game against whoever survives the Miami/Virginia Tech/Georgia Tech/North Carolina royal rumble. This schedule isn’t as tough as some of the others, but considering Clemson’s margin for error (zero), it is a challenge.
This will all be moot, of course, if the Tigers cannot beat Georgia.
