Chris Pratt to be Starlord in the Guardians of the Galaxy Film

I know Chris Pratt can do humor. I have not, however, seen him in a serious role. I am cautiously optimistic that this is good casting[^fn1].

[^fn1]: After Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans nailing their respective characters, I think Marvel deserves the benefit of the doubt.

New Brian Wood Star Wars is iFanboy’s Pick of the Week

Josh Flanagan:

> Listen, I am not made of stone. If you poke me in my Star Wars parts, and you do it just right, you’re going to give me a warm, fuzzy feeling, and if it’s a comic book and I have the Pick of the Week, then you just might get lucky. I was not aware I wanted a Star Wars comic book, and since they’ve been publishing them non-stop for years, and I didn’t bother to read them, there’s a good chance I actually didn’t. Yet, here we are, so well done Dark Horse Comics. Let’s ride this thing out in style.

So say we all[^fn1].

[^fn1]: Wait, that’s the wrong show.

Hilarious. I especially like:

> No matter what happens, Gail Simone can’t be fired. She could literally set Dan DiDo on fire and still have a job.

Profiling the Guys Behind one of North Carolina’s Best Comic Shops

*Indy Week* profiles the guys behind [Ultimate Comics](http://ultimatecomcis.com):

> Eric Hoover, age 30, has worked at Ultimate Comics since graduating from UNC with a degree in anthropology. Now he’s the head organizer of the NC Comicon. Alan Gill, 42, is his boss. But judging from their rapport, you might guess it was the other way around. In the Amante Gourmet Pizza near their Farrington Road store, the dynamic duo fell into complementary roles. Hoover was the straight man, serious and informative, while Gill inserted quips in the bantering style of Spider-Man.

Really good article about a couple of good guys.

DC Comics Changes Digital Distribution Timing

DC Comics is changing the timing of its digital comics releases from 2pm to 3am Eastern. One of the major driving factors for this change is the inability to set specific release times in certain digital distribution channels[^f5541].

Ultimately, this is a positive step for comics readers. It allows readers to download their new Wednesday comics before their morning commute. I understand that some retailers might feel that this will “drive traffic away from comic stores,” but I suspect the people who are downloading their comics before they go to work had mostly already switched to digital. Still, it will be interesting to see how sales charts are affected in the coming months.

[^f5541]: They specifically list Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble.

Recapping NC Comicon

> With its fourth show in three years, NC Comicon showed the Triangle area that there are thousands of comic book fans thirsting for ways to celebrate their love for comics. Although final numbers have yet to be released, according to Jeremy Tarney, chief operations operator of Ultimate Comics and an organizer of NC Comicon, attendance is projected to break 3,000, the largest NC Comicon ever.

> “Every time I looked into the crowd, I was blown away by how many people have wanted to do this event,” Tarney said. “It has been really great. There has been a lot of stuff going on and I’m really glad to have been a part of this.”

I was impressed by the turnout, even on Sunday. I hope that Jeremy, Alan, and [the rest of the Ultimate Comics](http://ultimatecomics.com) guys can continue to the grow the show going forward.
