Let me summarize: Rory is the best golfer in the world.

Keep it in the Fairway
> Our scene: the Lakeridge Golf Course in Reno, Nevada. An as-yet-unidentified golfer struck a ball that broke a window in the courseside home of Jeff Fleming, age 53. According to Washoe County authorities, Fleming came out of the house brandishing a shotgun and fired at two golfers on the 16th hole.
Tip for Mr. Fleming for when he gets out of jail: f you do not like golf balls thwapping the side of your house, do not buy your next house on a golf course.
Tiger v. Rory
> Tiger Woods, now forced into the role of elder statesman by injury, scandal, time and a rising talent, nonetheless has the ability to win tournaments, if not necessarily majors. Woods hammered home a first-round 65 in the BMW Championship, a round punctuated by an 18th-hole chip-in birdie.
> And then, in a perfect metaphor for the changing times in golf, Rory McIlroy dropped his own birdie on top of Woods to finish his own round at 64.
I enjoy watching Rory step on Tiger while he’s own. I also look forward to Tiger getting the upper hand at somepoint[^y].
[^y]: This is not a given, but I think it will happen.
Rory Wins the Deutsche Bank
Remember a few weeks ago when people were worried about whether Rory was traveling around the world too much and not paying enough attention to his golf game? That *might* have been an overreaction.
15 year old wins LPGA Tournament
The most exciting, young players in golf are on the LPGA Touer.
> No, the final round at Kiawah Island felt different. Despite the fact that he won by a record eight shots — eclipsing Jack Nicklaus’ seven-shot win at the PGA in 1980 — there was no pomp and circumstance as the 23-year-old demolished the field with a clinical 6-under 66 round to win his second major championship in the last two years, becoming the youngest player in golf history to do so.
Rory looked unstoppable this weekend. It was pretty fun to watch. Of course, we [should avoid labeling him the next Tiger Woods](http://www.golfchannel.com/news/jason-sobel/rory-mcilroy-not-next-tiger-woods/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter):
> Mostly, though, it’s because no player should be saddled with the responsibility of having to be The Next anyone, especially if that title is followed by the name of a 14-time major champion.
Really good piece from Jason Sobel, who I had lost track of since he left ESPN. I’m glad I found where he’s writing now.
Els Wins the British
I honestly did not think I’d ever see Ernie win another tournament, let alone another major. Congratulations to him.
There must be a lot of cell phones at Royal Lytham.
